Ankle sprains—The ligaments and tendons that hold your ankle joint together can become excessively stretched or torn if the ankle is twisted, turned, or rolled accidentally. For all ankle injuries, you should have an evaluation performed by your podiatrist to receive the proper treatment and to avoid chronic ankle problems in the future.
Achilles tendonitis—The Achilles tendon is the largest tendon in the body. It connects the back of your heel to your calf muscle and makes ambulation possible. Stress and overuse from sporting activities and work often cause inflammation and injury to the tendon. In fact, sometimes the tendon can tear or completely break under extreme force making a loud popping sound in the process. Extreme pain and immobility follow. Surgery will be required to reattach the tendon.
